The Project

ESKC are a national group of Karate Clubs who needed an online presence and a way to administer their data.

The initial scope was to develop a website to formalise their structure. However the project grew, and managing their growing list of clubs and sizeable Dan Grade (black belt) Register – DGR – was becoming problematic for the separation of responsibilities.

In order to allow Club membership and status, and Dan Grade Register entries, to be managed effectively – without providing edit access to the website to those working administratively – the Sport Karate API was developed.

This API allowed a restricted, easy administrative access point to manage relevant data, without providing access to the website itself.

To provide the data to the website, via the newly developed API and Admin panel, a WordPress plugin was developed using the RESTful endpoints, and shortcodes to display filtered data to the end user.
